Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria

SISTERS' WING AND YOUTHS' WING

SISTERS' WING

The meaning of Sisters' Wing
Sisters' wing is the female folk of the members of the CCRN which is guided strictly by the guidelines or constitution of the CCRN. It's meant to be under the main prayer group of it's parish and be linked with the diocesan, Provincial and National body as a whole. Membership is open to all the female folk of the Renewal, irrespective of their age, social status, and disposition. This implies that it includes the singles, married, and even the widows.

The Origin of the Sisters' Wing.
With the increase in membership of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria, there was an inspiration concerning the necessity of training the sisters' in order to render a notable contribution within the body. This led to the coming together of some sisters in order to discuss warmly on issues that concerns them most. From here emerges the Sisters' Wing, which is now seen a necessity considering the special role of woman within the family, the christian community and the nation as a whole.
Sisters' wing was initiated then to enhance the spread of the gospel and to serve as behaviour modifier as issues concerning divorce, extra-marital affairs and indecency among the female folk are being discussed at their meetings.

The Objectives of the Sisters' wing

1.To carry the youth along by catching them young.

2. To teach and learn to be mothers of homes by carrying our husbands along in the home management.

3.To discourage indecent dressing and behaviour and encourage modesty in dressing and in behaviour.

4.To groom women who can manage their situation no matter how awkward they may seem and through their struggle and prayer eradicate poverty in their homes.

5.To use the sisters' wing as a tool to produce better potential wives, better mothers, and better wives so as to be able to build and groom better homes.

6.To Stand by sisters when they loose their husbands considering the untold hardship and mental/psychological torture, some sisters undergo at the instance of the death of their husbands.

THE ORGANIZATION OF SISTERS' MEETING

The first step is to receive permission from the service team of any level at which the group is operating, and then the following modalities could be followed:

1.Gather the sisters irrespective of their age, tribe or tongue, social or marital status.

2. Elect the officials of that particular group (this is to be done by the service team using the CCRN guideliness.

3,Every member is to be carried along during discussions and decision making.

4,Absent members are to be sought after as a sign of concern ad care.

5.Cases of sick members or bereaved sisters are to be treated with great empathy.

6. Meetings could be held forth nightly- every two weeks. The first meeting is fasting and prayer for our families, friends, community, nations and the world at large. Different prayer points are to be brought by members and must be handled. The second meeting is purely administrative, where monthly dues, levies, invitations and other matters are being discussed.

7.Sisters will function according to the ministries they belong in the main prayer group.

8. Sisters weekend at the diocesan level is to be organized once a year and should involve activities that will boast skill acquisition and empowerment.

9. Retreats, workshops and seminars are organized from time to time to address some challenges of life and strenghten the spiritiaul lives of the members. Sharing of testimonies and experiences will help others in growing in faith.

YOUTHS' WING

This is a medium, inaugurated by the National Service Team of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, by which young members of the Renewal could come together for joint activities in order to share their personal life experiences in the Christian walk. Knowing that the youths, as the future leaders in every facet of human society, is a remarkable force to reckon with, the CCR in Nigeria has put structures in place so as to pay special attention to their human and spiritual formation. It is believed that this forum would develop them for evangelism and for active participation within the renewal.
Youths, based on the stage they are in life, are faced with great challenges, problems, and uncertainties, and these experiences of theirs could be a threat to the faith in Christ if there is no forum by which they could learn from their fellows. Thus, the youth ministry will play a vital role in this regard as it would groom them towards becoming brave and determined leaders who will promote and spread the culture of Pentecost and the ‘Civilization of Love’.
Youths possesses special abilities and skills which could be harnessed and fostered towards the advancement of the mission of the CCRN, which is evangelization through baptism in the Holy Spirit and the experience of Pentecost. A mission that will not be complete until every single young person has had this experience. Among such positive qualities that characterizes the youths are their dreams, physical vigour, joy, generosity, sensitivity, solidarity, boldness, courage, openness to fraternity and openness of heart, friendship, spirit of adventure, love of taking risks, idealism, interest and open-mindedness to new ideas.
The Youth Ministry is being empowered to help young members of the renewal to grow in the Catholic faith, in their understanding of the Gospel, and in the proper integration of Charismatic spirituality in order to deepen their relationship with Jesus. It is quite indisputable that this would give these young individuals the ability to have a stable or committed relationship in their life amidst the secular values that challenges Christian living in our contemporary age. It will also provide a space for them to offer many suggestions for improvement and make valuable contributions toward the growth of the Renewal in Nigeria.
To this end, The National Youth Leaders’ Workshop will come up on the 29th of September, 2011 at the National Service Centre. Br. Chris David Eze has been appointed by the NEC as the National Coordinator of this Ministry.

VITAL COMPONENTS OF THE MINISTRY

1. PRAYER MEETINGS: such meetings should aim at evangelizing the youth with lively music and motivation, common language used in preaching and prayers, and themes that reflects the reality of the youth. This will thereby increasing their interest in personal prayer, reading of the Word of God, participation in the Sacraments, studying of the Catholic Christian Doctrine, use of charisms and spiritual gifts, praying within the family, in addition to other devotional practices.

2. RETREATS: this would enable youths to be able to spend time in quiet with God, listening for God’s presence.

3. FAITH SHARING: this will provide a medium by which they could speak about their personal experiences and not only listen, but experience being prayed over, either individually or in small groups.
